Peace

Peace

So what is peace? John Lennon sang about it. People march about it. Pageant participants speak about it. But what is it really? And what does it actually look like?

I think sometimes we think it means everyone agrees. But I think it actually means that we're okay with disagreeing. That we have this trust deep down inside of us that everything really will be all right.

Have you ever been in the middle of total chaos and amidst the opinions, theatrics, requirements you had a space and a knowing (that no one could understand) that there was no need to panic? It drives people who haven't yet experience this peace bonkers. And where they are coming from is fairly sensible (we've all been there) because things are appearing to be all but okay.

Peace is also something we constantly have to reconnect with. You know, we have messages flying at us from every direction everyday screaming that things are not okay, have never been okay, and won't ever be okay. But that's just not the truth.

It doesn't mean we ignore all the warning signs flashing everywhere around us. I think the warning signs are important, but I don't think we can function if we hang out there. I actually think that it can kills us, which is why people have strokes, heart attacks, addictions. I think we have to move into peace and find that little whisper that there actually are answers for all of the problems--even if they're not clear.

I think we have to set aside intentional time to receive answers. And peace comes and then it stays and people watching from the outside get confused and frustrated because the logical answer inside of them is frenzy. But we don't make clear and effective decisions out of hysteria.

And here's the other thing about peace: it doesn't lie. I know this from experience. In the most monumental times of chaos in my life whenever peace has been present, peace has always been right. You can trust. In fact, you must. I truly believe it is necessary. I look around at people I care about; I look back on my own experiences; and I know it's necessary.

So peace can happen for anyone. And it's deep in your gut saying we know what we know. It's already inside of you; you just have to connect. So hang on to that. Do whatever it takes to get back to that. Because I promise, if you trust, everything is going to be all right.
