Let's Move Out

Let's Move Out

Sometimes in life I start to get bogged down and feel a little heavy. Sometimes I know why; sometimes I don't. Oftentimes, it is because I've been spending too much time thinking about myself. If you've gone too deeply inward, you might need to look outward.

One of the greatest steps to take you out of the heaviness is to serve, to give. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. It can be as simple as listening to someone else talk for a while or buying something extra at the grocery store to give away. It can be as grand as saying a prayer for someone without them ever knowing you did.

I think it's time to stop spending so much time inside our heads and start spending more time trying to get inside of others' heads. I think it's time to start crossing lines we don't understand or who make us angry and hear their hearts. I think it's time to start loving people because they're people rather than because they have the same perspectives as you. It's time to move outward.

When we decide to make decisions outside of ourselves all of the time, we're going to start to feel lighter but also we're going to start make the world a better place. I really believe this: If we'd all start listening with compassion a little bit more, there would be more profound change. Let's all be open to the idea that maybe we're wrong or even a little wrong. There's always room to grow. There's are always learning to be done. Let's move out and progress.

Photo Story: I love the movie You've Got Mail. Love it. Last year, I met one of my best friends in NYC to go visit another bestie who had just moved to Brooklyn. Since I was in college, I would cry every time my friend and I watched Kathleen tell Joe, "I wanted it be you; I wanted it to be you so badly." I tear up thinking about it. It's got to be one of the best lines of a movie ever. Anyway, my sweetie friends surprised me by bringing me to the place that little line went down. It was magical. I took this photo there at Riverside Park.
