What's The Truth?
In nearly every fear that comes against us, there's a lie we've bought into. And if there is a lie, there's probably a truth that someone out there is trying to prevent us from believing. This is true from shallow lies to deep-rooted lies.
Just think about it.
Whenever we're face-to-face with a beautiful person, a lie that comes against us immediately is that there can only be one. And that's just ridiculous. The truth to that stifling lie is that there are many, many types of beauty with room for all forms of it.
Sometimes a very talented artist shows up and blows everyone away. The lie that speaks up says that there is already a good artist; it says that there's no use in pursuing art if you can't be the best--or even good at it. The truth is you weren't making art for them anyway. You were making art for you and what it does for your soul.
Our tendency is to close up and shut down whenever we feel someone violates our trust or our privacy. The lie that is nearly always attached that experience is that the next step is to clam up and let no one in. The lie is that you're safer alone. This can be a dangerous lie because sometimes this lie sends us spiraling into depression. The truth is relationships are messy and that's not exactly a bad thing. The truth is people make mistake but missing out being close with each other is missing out really experiencing life. There is nothing better than relationships, nothing more nourishing (when you find the right people to put in your life). The truth is maybe that person doesn't need to be someone you trust but that doesn't write off all people.
These lies are freezing us with fear. And the truth is there is usually something quite beautiful on the other side of that lie.
So catch yourself. Don't let yourself be convinced on what the lie says. Don't let the lie have the last word. Let the truth be the final word. Let your truth decide where you'll land.
Photo Story: This photo was taken in a beautiful, German town in Missouri called Hermann. My grandmother was actually raised in this sweet city. Whenever I lived in Columbia, we took a day trip to explore the restaurants and wineries. If you are a wine or beer drinker, you're sure to find something delectable to drink. It looks like a town out of a storybook. They also host an Oktoberfest celebration each year, which I hope to someday make it to enjoy.
All the good stuff to you, readers and friends.
