Mind Your Mouth
I believe we've got to really step up our game in the word department. You guys, we have to start speaking positive words over one another and ourselves.
Have you ever heard of self-fulfilling prophecy in psychology? In summary, you become what people and you say you are. Have you ever heard yourself say about someone in a completely negative context, "She's going to be just like her mother." And then they do. I think it has a whole awful lot to do with how we view ourselves and how we we view ourselves is shaped by how those around us view us.
I believe there is a whole lot of power in our words. This shouldn't be too big of a shock for you. Have you ever crushed someone with something you said? You can see the impact of what you said all over their entire body. We've experienced it the opposite way, too. You're in a new environment, and someone comes up to you and genuinely says, "I am so glad you're here." Your entire mood and your entire body changes.
We have to start holding our words with much more reverence. We've got to stop slinging them around like they don't matter. They do. Stop and think before you say a single thing. If can't add something helpful or positive to a situation, there is no reason to say a peep about it. It's true.
So when you start to share a bit of gossip or start to talk about how he'll never get out of that situation, think again. Come up with something that will offer hope into that situation, even if that person never even knows you said it.
And do the same for yourself. Don't let another day pass where you've filled all of your wake time with what you know can't happen for your life and what you're just never going to be able to do. I believe there is hope in every situation.
I believe real change starts in your mouth, and I believe your heart, your mind, then your actions will be quick to follow. Mind your mouth, my beautiful friends.
"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Proverbs 18:21
Photo Story: This photo was taken on a beach outside of Boston, Massachusetts. On a long weekend trip to Boston in 2010, we decided to take a train to a beach nearby. I couldn't even tell you the name. Beautiful stones were scattered atop the sand. It was a beautiful scene. There weren't many people on the beach but more than I had anticipated on this windy, May day. It was beautiful and sweet. We sat in silence and took in the scenery.
