Peering In: Kassidy Moore
Peering In is a section of the blog where guest writers come to share their voice.
We have Kassidy Moore sharing her first poem ever written today and are so grateful that she did. Kassidy is a strong, intelligent, high school student with a clear heart and vision for advocacy. It's an honor to hear from her and to be able to share her first piece in this way.
(And also, isn't she beautiful?)
Kaleidoscope by Kassidy Moore
Sometimes all the ugly in life
can get inside your head and
change the way you see things.
Some people are blind to the
good in life. Looking through
their eyes is looking through a
kaleidoscope that only shows
the bad in the world. All they
see is violence and hatred and it
consumes them. They feel
helpless. They don't fully grasp
the concept that they can fix
their kaleidoscope and make it
good as new. One that shows
the green grass and blue skies
and flowers. And how if you look
at a cloud a certain way it forms
a puppy or... well, in my eyes a
giant cotton ball. Or your
kaleidoscope could show
waterfalls. The kind that has the
mist that makes a rainbow. I'm
not saying that you should live
your life not acknowledging the
bad. You should. But instead of
letting it swallow you whole,
and screwing up your awesome
kaleidoscope, how about just
trying to fix the bad? Because
believe it or not, your
kaleidoscope is a good
kaleidoscope. The bad in life is
just smudges on the lens. You
can fix it if you just look past the
smudges. Or if the smudge gets
too big to see through, take
something and try really hard to
wipe away most of that smudge
because it will help sooner or
later. If it feels like you can't
wipe away the smudge, just wait.
You never know, there could be
a rain that passes through and
washes away the smudge for
you. My point is, if you fix your
eyes on the little things in life,
they can turn into bigger
problems. Keep your eyes on
the good. And if bad comes
your way, you got this. Ignore it.
Fix it. Do whatever it takes. Just
keep your eyes on the good.
